The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia in a disproportionate assets case. Majithia has been in Nabha jail for seven months, which he has called a “cheap political vendetta” by the Punjab government led by CM Bhagwant Mann.
The relief comes amid SAD concerns for his safety in jail. Leaders, including Majithia’s brother-in-law Sukhbir Singh Badal, alleged that the state government had not acted on intelligence warnings and claimed invasive cameras were being installed inside his cell and during his wife’s visit, violating privacy and religious sentiments. The Punjab government has rejected these allegations.

Majithia was arrested in June 2025 by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, and the Supreme Court order is expected to detail bail conditions.
