Minimum Age for International Cricket
In 2020, the International Cricket Council (ICC) introduced a regulation that sets a minimum age limit for players to appear in international cricket.
What the law says
A player cannot play international cricket (Tests, ODIs, or T20Is) unless:
- The player is at least 15 years old, OR
- The ICC grants a special exemption in rare cases.
Exact condition
A cricketer must be 15 years or older on the day of the match to represent a senior national team.
Special Exception Clause
The ICC can allow a player under 15 only if the board proves the player has:
- Sufficient playing experience
- Mental maturity
- Physical readiness
For this, the player’s cricket board (like BCCI) must submit a formal request to the ICC.
Vaibhav is currently 14, and will turn 15 on March 27, 2026.
So, under ICC rules, he is not eligible for India’s senior team right now unless ICC approves an exemption.
Currently, Vaibhav is only 14 years old, and he will celebrate his 15th birthday on March 27, 2026. This means he is ineligible for international selection, including the T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled before that date.
