Tragedy struck Polem Beach when a 19-year-old polytechnic student from Ankola, Karnataka, drowned while swimming with two friends after bunking college. The trio was enjoying an outing Thursday when strong currents swept the youth away, leading to a missing complaint.
A large-scale operation swung into action, involving the Indian Coast Guard, Goa Police, and local fishermen. After intensive scans of coastal waters, the body was located and recovered Sunday. It has been sent for post-mortem to confirm details.
The incident reignites concerns over Polem Beach’s lack of lifeguards or police outposts, as previously flagged by O Heraldo.
