India keen to engage with new Bangladesh government, says High Commissioner Pranay Verma

India expressed readiness to engage with the new Bangladesh government, Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pranay Verma said on Sunday. Speaking after a meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, Verma described it as a courtesy call and an initial exchange of views. He emphasised India’s intent to strengthen people-centric cooperation in all domains, building on mutual interest and benefit. The meeting followed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s oath on February 17 after BNP’s electoral victory. Verma recalled recent high-level interactions, including Modi’s congratulatory message, a phone call, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s visit for the swearing-in. The envoy highlighted India’s commitment to nurturing historic ties and supporting a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh.
