The Bombay High Court has directed the Goa government to submit a comprehensive crowd management plan for the upcoming annual Shri Devi Lairai Jatra at Shirgao. The order came while hearing a petition linked to last year’s tragic incident at the festival, where a stampede claimed six lives and left nearly 80 people injured. The court stressed the need for proper safety and logistical arrangements ahead of this year’s event. Authorities have been asked to ensure adequate preventive measures to avoid any untoward situation. The 2026 jatra is scheduled for April 21, and the matter will next come up for hearing on March 10, when the government is expected to present its detailed action plan.
