At least 17 people were killed and 18 others injured in a powerful explosion at a gunpowder factory in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district on Sunday morning. The blast occurred at SBL Energy Limited’s facility at Raulgaon between 7 am and 7:15 am, reportedly in the detonator packing unit. Thick black smoke was seen billowing from the site as emergency teams, including the NDRF, rushed to carry out rescue operations. The injured were shifted to hospitals in Nagpur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured, while Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared Rs 5 lakh aid and ordered a detailed probe into the incident.
