Noted film
actor Varsha Usgaonkar will be making her Konkani film debut with ‘Zanvoy No. 1’, a film that is a mix
of drama, comedy, action and music. The maiden venture of Sangati Creations,
‘Zanvoy No. 1’ has been written and directed by Harry Fernandes Barkur, whose
previous Konkani films include ‘Noshibacho Khell’ and ‘Sophiya’. The lead roles
are played by Goan actors Varsha Usgaonkar, Kevin D’Mello and Prince Jacob. The
cast also includes Josita Anola Rodrigues, Stany Alvares, Rons London, Sujatha
Andrade, Ranjitha Lewis, Lyshon Fernandes and Deepak Paladka, a well-known
actor from Dubai.
This project has been designed by well-known theatre and social
activists Cyril Castelino, Leo Fernandes and Walter D’Souza of Sangati
Creations. The film has been edited by Abhishek Mhaskar, music composed by trio
Eric Ozario, Jerry Bondel and Gunwant Sen with lyrics penned by Jerry Bondel,
Lloyd Rego and Harry Fernandes. The action has been directed by Sunil
Rodrigues, who also directed the action for ‘Chennai Express’. The film’s music
arranger is Patson Pereira. The film will premiere on May 9, 2018 at Maquinez
Palace, Panjim at 6pm and will be screened on May 11 at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao
at 7:30pm and at Inox, Porvorim at 7pm, on May 12 at Maquinez Palace, Panjim at
6:30pm and on May 13 at Maquinez Palace, Panjim at 3pm and Agassaim Church
grounds at 6:30pm.

Vasco, Cyril Castelino grew up in Mumbai among the Mangalorean community, which
made him fall in love with both, Goan and Mangalorean culture. A noted
distributor of tiatrs and live shows in Mumbai, this is his first venture as a
producer. Though he knew that Konkani was a common factor, he also understood
that the dialect and accents are not the same. “I wanted to bring both these
cultures on screen and we did research of nearly 5-6 months to understand the
basics of these culture. 90 per cent of the actors are from Goa while a major
part of the shooting was done in Mangalore. The technicians and support staff
were from Mumbai. It was a great atmosphere on the sets as everyone was
interacting in Konkani. The film took 21 days of shooting followed by nearly
three months of post production, which was done in Goa,” says Cyril.
Excited about the
release of the film in Goa, Cyril explains how the film had scenes that were
shot twice and has two dialects for the audience. “There is a difference in the
phrases that are used while speaking. While shooting, it would be difficult to
make the actors speak their dialogues if the dubbing would not match. Some
scenes had to be re-shot. That’s why, in Mangalore, we screened the Mangalorean
version of the film with English subtitles, and in Goa, we will screen the Goan
version,” he informs.
‘Zanvoy
No.1’ is a super combination of thrill, action, comedy, romance and high
voltage drama. The film already set the record in Mangalorean cinema as the
first Konkani film to be screened simultaneously at 13 theatres across the
region. “We have already completed 120 shows in Mangalore and the film has
received an overwhelming response. In Goa too, we have five shows besides the
premiere and tickets have already gone on sale. Many Goan tiatrists have helped
us in the dubbing as Mangalorean actors were finding it difficult to work on
the pronunciation,” concludes Cyril.
