A violent incident at a residential school hostel in Ballari district of Karnataka left one student dead and several others injured after a Class 9 student allegedly attacked his classmates with an iron rod late Saturday night.
According to police, the incident took place at a Gurukula residential school hostel after students had gone to bed. The accused student reportedly picked up an iron rod and began attacking other students indiscriminately while they were asleep.

Eight students were injured in the assault. One student from Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayanagar succumbed to his injuries, while two others are said to be in critical condition. Six more students are currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
During the rampage, the accused student also allegedly attacked the hostel warden and a driver before fleeing the premises. Authorities have launched a search operation to locate the student.
Inspector General of Police for the Ballari Range, P. S. Harsha, said teams from the Scene of Crime Officers and the Forensic Science Laboratory had been sent to the location to gather evidence.
He stated that the case will be handled under the Juvenile Justice Act as the accused is a minor, and the investigation will be conducted sensitively.
The victim’s parents have raised concerns about hostel safety and alleged that the accused student may have been addicted to drugs.
