Tension gripped Sri Siddhartha Medical College (SSMC) in Tumkur after an assistant professor allegedly proposed to a female student during a class session, triggering outrage among students and leading to his assault.
The incident occurred inside a classroom when the professor, identified as Abdul, made a public proposal in front of the entire batch. A video of the episode, recorded by a student, has since surfaced on social media, capturing the moment that sparked the controversy.

In the footage, the professor is heard addressing the class, stating that he was overwhelmed by the affection shown by the students and wished to propose to “one of the most important girls” in the batch. He also promised to distribute chocolates to the class before expressing his feelings by saying “I love you” to the student.
The situation quickly escalated after the proposal. As the professor stepped down from the podium, the student confronted him and asked him to take the matter up with the college principal. The confrontation soon turned chaotic, with several students allegedly assaulting the professor.
During the exchange, the professor claimed that the student had previously expressed her feelings for him and asserted that he had proof to support his claim. “Didn’t you say ‘I love you’?” he was heard asking the student in the video.
Following the incident, the college administration took swift action, suspending the professor. An FIR has also been registered against him. The institution is reportedly managed by Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara.
Authorities are currently investigating the matter, while the incident has raised serious concerns about professional conduct and boundaries within educational institutions.
