Senior Citizen Alleges Poor Service at Margao Post Office Over Obsolete Debit Card Form

A senior citizen from Margao has alleged poor service at the local post office after being asked to resubmit a form for a new debit card, despite obtaining it from another branch within the same postal network.

According to the complaint, the elderly man visited the India Post office in Margao to submit a request for a new debit card linked to his son’s savings account, after the existing card had expired. As his son was unable to visit in person, the senior citizen had earlier collected the application form from the Fatorda post office, filled it, and returned to submit it at the Margao branch.

However, after waiting in a queue for over an hour, he was reportedly informed by the counter staff that the form he had filled was outdated and no longer valid. He was advised to obtain a new form and return the following day.

The senior citizen questioned the inconsistency, pointing out that if the form was obsolete, it should not have been issued by another post office under the same national network. In response, the attendant allegedly suggested that the account be shifted to the Fatorda branch if the form had been obtained there.

The incident has raised concerns about coordination within the postal system and the treatment of senior citizens. The complaint also highlighted the inconvenience caused, particularly as the visit took place during peak summer conditions, on a day when the India Meteorological Department had issued a heatwave alert.
