Ferry Services Extended Till Midnight on Chorao–Madel Route; Extra Night Trips Added

Ferry services on the Chorao–Madel route have been extended till midnight, with the number of night trips increased from two to three following a meeting with the local panchayat.

According to Vikram Singh Raje Bhosle, Director of the River Navigation Department (RND), the move comes in response to a significant 60–70% surge in Ro-Ro ferry usage. The increase has been attributed to ongoing highway works in Porvorim, prompting more commuters to opt for ferry transport.

To further strengthen connectivity, plans are underway to introduce two new Ro-Ro ferries between St. Pedro and Divar by December. Each ferry will have the capacity to carry up to nine four-wheelers, enhancing transport efficiency in the region.

Officials said the expanded services aim to ease commuter movement and accommodate the rising demand for ferry travel in the state.
