Diljit Dosanjh, one of the biggest global faces of Punjabi music and cinema, is reportedly no longer an Indian citizen. According to a reports, the singer-actor obtained United States citizenship in 2022 and has since been travelling internationally on a US passport.
The revelation surfaced days after a Punjab-based think tank publicly urged Dosanjh to enter politics and lead the state’s future. The group, comprising retired military officials, bureaucrats and professionals, claimed Punjab needed a fresh leadership alternative. However, Dosanjh quickly rejected the proposal through a post on X, saying politics was not his calling and that he was happy working in entertainment.

Reports suggest the actor has been entering India on an e-visa since late 2022 and may not possess an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. His wife, Sandeep Kaur, is also reportedly a US citizen, while the singer is said to own a large residence in California.
The issue has triggered debate online because of Dosanjh’s strong public identity tied to Punjab and Punjabi culture, often reflected in his famous phrase, “Main Hoon Punjab.”
The controversy also comes amid recent threats from Gurpatwant Singh Pannun after Dosanjh criticised Khalistan supporters during performances in Canada.
Born in Jalandhar district, Dosanjh rose to fame with his 2004 album Ishq Da Uda Ada and later became a major Bollywood and international music star.
