In a recent conversation on a Royal Challengers Bengaluru podcast released on the team’s official X handle, Kohli spoke candidly about his long-term plans. He said that his decision to continue playing depends on whether he still adds value to the team environment and whether that value is acknowledged.
Kohli made it clear that he is not interested in being in a situation where he has to repeatedly prove his place in the side. He stressed that his preparation and commitment remain as strong as ever, and he continues to approach every ODI with full intensity and professionalism.
He further added that his lifestyle and discipline already align with the demands of international cricket, as he maintains strict fitness routines and a focused mindset. According to him, this readiness is not just for cricket but part of his everyday life.
On the question of the 2027 World Cup, Kohli said he is aware of what he wants internally but prefers not to get caught up in speculation. He expressed that if he is playing cricket at that time, he would naturally want to represent India at a World Cup, but only if the relationship between player and team remains mutually respectful.
Quoting his own perspective, Kohli said: “My perspective is very clear. If I can add value to the environment that I am a part of and the environment feels like I can add value, I will be seen.”
He further added: “If I am made to feel like I need to prove my worth and my value, I’m not in that space. Because I am being honest to my preparation.”
On his commitment to the game, Kohli stated: “I work as hard, if not harder than anyone else. And I play the game in the right way.”
Speaking on the World Cup speculation, he concluded: “Of course, if I’m playing, I want to play cricket. I want to carry on. Playing a World Cup for India is amazing. But the value has to be two sides.”
