Contractor booked for dumping material on road side at Seraulim

Unscrupulous contractors dumping material on road side causing accidents to motorists, beware.
A contractor executing work on laying foundation for power transformers learnt the bitter truth on Saturday when he was booked by the Colva Police for endangering the lives of humans by his act of dumping construction material including black metal and gravel on the road at Per Seraulim.
The incident occurred on Friday night when a two-wheeler rider met with an accident at the spot where the contractor had dumped his construction material. The two-wheeler rider sustained injuries after his vehicle skidded off the road on the black metal which was scattered all over the main narrow road.
Even as he was rushed to the Hospicio hospital last night for treatment of his injuries, local NGO Colva Civic and Consumer Forum took up the case of sheer negligence on the part of the contractor for dumping the material on the road.
Forum convenor Judith Almeida took up the matter with the Colva police this morning and demanded immediate arrest of the contractor.
Assistant Engineer, Electricity Santosh Lolyenkar who rushed to the site this morning sympathised with members of the public after seeing for himself the black metal and gravel on the road.
Lolyenkar told Herald that the incident is a sheer case of negligence on the part of the contractor and directed him to clear the road of the material within half an hour. “This negligence attitude of the contractor cannot be tolerated. There should be a stop to such things”, he said, while directing the contractor to lift the material from the road.
Colva police when contacted informed that the police has arrested the contractor Santosh, a native of Maharashtra under Section 336 and 337 of the IPC for failing to take precautionary measures at the site and to display warning signals on the road about the on going, thereby endangering human lives.
He was later released on bail.
