The Royal Challengers Bengaluru were often labelled as one of the biggest underachievers during the early years of the Indian Premier League. Despite boasting superstars like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle, the franchise repeatedly fell short of expectations throughout much of the 2010s.

The change in approach helped Bengaluru become one of the most consistent teams in recent IPL seasons. Since 2020, RCB have missed the playoffs only once — in 2023 — and finally ended their long wait for a title by lifting their maiden IPL trophy in 2025.
