The Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) has written to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant urging the state government not to hold the upcoming Assembly elections during the peak Christmas and New Year tourism season.
In its representation, TTAG warned that conducting elections during one of Goa’s busiest tourist periods could lead to severe traffic congestion, disruption of tourism-related activities, financial losses for businesses, and damage to the state’s global tourism image.

The tourism body stated that the Christmas-New Year period is crucial for Goa’s hospitality and tourism industry, attracting thousands of domestic and international visitors every year.
TTAG expressed concern that election-related movement, security arrangements, rallies, and restrictions could create chaos across major tourist destinations and negatively affect visitor experience.
To avoid disruptions, TTAG has proposed that the Assembly elections be rescheduled to February 2027 instead of being held during the festive tourism season.
The association has appealed to the state government to consider the economic importance of the tourism sector while planning the election schedule and to ensure that Goa’s reputation as a premier holiday destination remains unaffected.
