Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Tim David has been handed a one-match suspension and fined 50 per cent of his match fee following an incident during the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium.The Australian all-rounder was found guilty of breaching Article 2.9 of the IPL Code of Conduct after throwing an ice bag in the direction of on-field umpire Nitin Menon.
The incident occurred during the first innings after a catch taken by Jordan Cox was reviewed by third umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal and eventually ruled in Gujarat Titans’ favour.David’s actions resulted in two additional demerit points being added to his record.

Having already accumulated three demerit points from previous offences earlier in the season, his total now stands at five, triggering an automatic one-match suspension.According to the IPL, the offence relates to throwing any item of cricket equipment or similar object at or near an umpire, player or official in an inappropriate or dangerous manner.David accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath. Earlier in the season, he was penalised for failing to comply with an umpire’s instruction and later fined for making an obscene gesture after a match.As a result of reaching five demerit points, David will serve his suspension in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s opening match of the IPL 2027 season.
