Residents allege speeding and drunken riding led to the crash; long-pending demand for traffic calming measures raised again.
A woman sustained serious injuries in a road accident involving a Bullet motorcycle and an Activa scooter at Vorcotto in Sanguem, prompting renewed calls from local residents for the installation of speed breakers in the area.
According to local residents, the Bullet motorcycle was allegedly being ridden at high speed when it collided with the Activa scooter. Witnesses further alleged that the riders of the motorcycle were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. These claims have not yet been officially confirmed by authorities.
The woman riding the Activa suffered a fracture to her leg and was immediately shifted to the Sanguem Health Centre for medical treatment. Locals stated that her condition is critical.
Following the accident, residents expressed concern over road safety in the area and reiterated their longstanding demand for speed breakers. They claimed that repeated requests have been made to the authorities over the years to install traffic calming measures on the stretch, but no action has been taken.
According to locals, the absence of speed breakers has contributed to frequent instances of overspeeding, creating a risk for motorists and pedestrians alike. They urged the concerned departments to take immediate steps to improve road safety and prevent similar accidents in the future.
Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and ascertain the exact cause of the collision.
