A fresh political controversy has erupted in Bihar after former chief ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi returned the security personnel deployed at their Patna residence following a reduction in their security cover by the state government. The move came after the Bihar administration reviewed security arrangements for VIPs and withdrew the Z-plus category protection previously provided to the senior Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders.
Under the revised arrangement, the couple was assigned security personnel from the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP), including house guards, bodyguards, a pilot vehicle and a bulletproof car. However, the newly deployed personnel stationed outside their residence at 10 Circular Road were reportedly asked to leave.

The issue escalated further when Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also returned his Y-category security cover. The security protection of Tej Pratap Yadav, chief of the Janshakti Janta Dal and elder son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, was also withdrawn by the government.
RJD spokespersons alleged that the actions were politically motivated. The development follows another recent decision by the Bihar government directing Rabri Devi to vacate the official bungalow at 10 Circular Road. Party leaders claimed that both decisions were aimed at targeting the opposition ahead of crucial political developments in the state.
