Three Air India narrow-body aircraft sustained damage at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport after strong winds and heavy rain caused ground support equipment to strike the parked planes, airport officials confirmed.
According to officials from Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the incident occurred at around 4:40 p.m. on Sunday when sudden gusty winds and rainfall swept across the national capital, disrupting airport operations and affecting flight schedules.

Airport authorities said the aircraft were hit after ground support equipment shifted from its position due to the unexpected weather conditions. As a precaution, all three aircraft were withdrawn from service for inspection and repairs.
Officials also noted that no prior weather warning had been issued by the Air Traffic Control (ATC) to either the airport operator or airlines before the abrupt deterioration in weather conditions.
While Air India has not issued an official statement regarding the incident, a source familiar with the matter said aircraft belonging to other airlines were also impacted by the severe weather.
The official added that two of the three affected Air India aircraft are expected to return to service shortly after undergoing necessary inspections and repairs, while investigations into the incident are currently underway.
