Emotional scenes mark funeral of Samuel

An overwhelm ing wave of grief swept through Mapusa on Monday as thousands of mourners gathered to bid a final farewell to Samuel Garvyn De Braganca, the young man whose death following an unfortunate chain of events has shak en the community and sparked widespread calls for accountability. Family members, friends, neighbours, teachers, well-wishers and political leaders joined the funeral procession and final rites, united in sorrow over the loss of a life many felt had ended far too soon.

The funeral cortege left Samuel’s residence at 3.30 pm and proceeded to St Jerome Church, Mapusa, where an Eucharistic Cele bration was held at 4 pm. The final rites concluded with his burial at the cem etery. Samuel, son of late John son and Genevieve de Bra ganca, was remembered as a loving brother to Crisann and Sheena and a cherished grandson of late Francisco and Benvinda de Braganca and late George and Luiza Carvalho. Scenes of heartbreak un folded throughout the ser vice.

Samuel’s mother was inconsolable as she stood beside her son’s coffin, re peatedly breaking down while family members and friends tried to comfort her. His sisters, overcome with grief, stood quietly through the prayers and final rites as mourners offered con dolences and support. The atmosphere inside and outside the church reflected a profound sense of col lective loss. Many who had known Samu el from childhood struggled to hold back tears, while others stood in silent prayer, grappling with the tragedy that had befall en the young man and his family.

As Samuel’s mortal remains were low ered into the grave amid prayers and tears, the pain of his loss was visible on every face. For many gathered there, the funeral was not only a final goodbye to a beloved son, brother and friend, but also a solemn reminder of a tragedy that has left an en tire community searching for answers. Among those present were Congress leaders Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira, Sal man Khan and Adv Shashank Narvekar, AAP leader Valmiki Naik, MMC Councillor Prakash Bhivshet, social activist Manuel Cardozo and several other social and polit ical figures.
