PANJIM: The death of a 24-year-old medical intern attached to the Goa Med- ical College and Hospital (GMCH) has triggered se- rious questions, with in- vestigators racing to piece together the circumstances that led to her body being found on Hawaii Beach at Dona Paula on Wednesday.
The deceased, a native of Kerala who was under- going her internship at the State’s premier medical institution, was discovered lying on the beach by local residents early in the day. Alarmed by the sight, they alerted the Panjim police, who rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

What has added to the mystery is that the young doctor was reportedly found wearing her lab- oratory uniform, raising questions about when and how she reached the se- cluded stretch of beach and what transpired before her death.
Police conducted an inquest at the scene and shifted the body to the Goa Medical College for a post-mortem examination. Officials said the autopsy would be crucial in deter- mining the exact cause of death and whether any foul play was involved. Investigators are also examining the intern’s movements in the hours leading up to the incident and are gathering evidence to establish a clearer timeline of events. The incident has prompted concern at the highest levels of the Health Department. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane described the death as both unfortunate and serious, and directed GMCH Dean Dr J P Tiwari to conduct a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the case. “The incident is unfortunate and serious. A detailed med ical investigation should be carried out,” Rane said while ordering the probe. For now, the death of the young medical professional remains shrouded in mystery, with investigators relying on forensic evidence and witness accounts to uncover the truth.
