Putin backs India, Brazil and China as potential mediators in Ukraine conflict

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that India, Brazil and China could play an important role in facilitating potential peace talks aimed at ending the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Speaking at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), Putin acknowledged the efforts being made by the three countries to help find a diplomatic solution to the crisis. He said the leaders of India, Brazil and China were making sincere attempts to contribute towards resolving the situation and promoting dialogue between the warring sides.

The Russian President emphasised that he remains in regular contact with the leadership of all three nations regarding developments in the conflict. According to Putin, these countries have consistently demonstrated a genuine interest in achieving a peaceful resolution and addressing the issues surrounding the war through diplomatic means.

Putin’s remarks come at a time when international efforts to end the prolonged conflict have intensified. His statement also follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent diplomatic engagements with both Russia and Ukraine. During his visit to Moscow earlier this year, Modi held discussions with Putin on a range of bilateral and global issues, including the Ukraine conflict.

Subsequently, during his visit to Ukraine, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s long-standing position that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to ending the war. He emphasised that India has consistently stood on the side of peace and has encouraged both nations to pursue negotiations instead of prolonged military confrontation.

India has maintained a balanced approach throughout the conflict, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities while supporting efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace. New Delhi has repeatedly stressed the importance of respecting international law, sovereignty and territorial integrity while advocating for dialogue as the best means to resolve disputes.
