PANJIM: Even though the Select Committee on the Medium of Instruction (MoI) is yet to submit its report, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar virtually said that passing the Bill in the Assembly will not impact the present arrangement.
“I have said it time and again and even on the floor of the House, bringing the Bill in the House will not solve the issue, it is only that it will become a law,” Parsekar said when asked to comment on Bharatiya Janata Party’s stand that the MoI Bill should not be brought before the Assembly.
“Nothing will change we have an amicable solution to the issue and I think it is the best under the present circumstances. My stand is status of the schools should not be changed,” he said.
Parsekar said that even if the Bill is passed by this Assembly and becomes a law the next government could change it.
The BJP had reacted to the Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) chief Subash Velingkar’s statement that their options are open if the government does not stop grants to Dicosean schools.
On whether he would be attending the BBSM function, for which he is invited on April 24, Parsekar said, “Individually I feel that I must go but if there is a diktat from the party for me not to attend then I will not go.”
To a query, he replied that his options are open and he may call the BBSM and the party leaders for discussions on the issue.
He also refuted the party’s claim that BBSM was never part of the BJP in 2012 elections saying, “We worked with BBSM during the 2012 agitation and also the 2012 election campaign.”
