At least 15 people were injured after a major fire broke out in a naphtha-carrying pipeline at Haldia Petrochemicals Limited (HPL) in West Bengal during the early hours of Tuesday.
The incident took place between 4:00 am and 5:00 am, when flames suddenly engulfed the pipeline, triggering panic within the industrial premises. The blaze, fuelled by the highly flammable naphtha, spread rapidly and left several workers with burn injuries.

Local residents, along with factory officials, rushed to the scene and launched rescue efforts. All the injured were shifted to the Haldia Sub-divisional Hospital for treatment. Hospital sources said that some of the victims remain in critical condition.
Naphtha, a volatile petroleum product refined from crude oil, is widely used in the production of fuels such as gasoline and kerosene, making fires involving the substance particularly hazardous.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Haldia Petrochemicals Limited authorities have not issued an official statement explaining how the incident occurred. An investigation is expected to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.
