Varca: Residents of Pedda Dumottem in Varca, along with social activist Shohail Furtado, have opposed the proposed construction of a 10-metre-wide road in the area, urging the Village Panchayat to retain the existing 3-metre road.
The residents alleged that widening the road to 10 metres would pave the way for large-scale construction activities and resort development, which they fear could alter the character of the locality and adversely impact the surrounding environment.
Speaking on the issue, Shohail Furtado said the existing 3-metre road is sufficient to meet the needs of local residents and questioned the necessity of the proposed widening. He urged the Panchayat to consider the concerns raised by the local community before proceeding with the project.
The residents have appealed to the Panchayat to retain the current road width and ensure that any future development in the area is undertaken in consultation with the local community.
