The woman also alleged that her husband and sisters-in-law frequently hosted parties with friends at their residence. When she objected to these gatherings, her father-in-law allegedly dismissed her concerns, saying such parties were a pastime of affluent families.
Based on her complaint, police initially registered a case against her husband and father-in-law under provisions relating to dowry harassment, assault, and criminal intimidation.
During the course of the investigation, police said fresh evidence led to the addition of rape charges against Mukesh Kumar Tiwari. Following the development, the accused allegedly went into hiding to evade arrest.
