Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that India’s first bullet train service will begin operations on August 15, 2027, with the Surat-Bilimora section of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor set to become the first operational stretch.
Addressing the HYSEA GCCS & IT Roundtable at the Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre, Vaishnaw said the 508-km Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor will be commissioned in a phased manner as construction progresses.

The Railway Minister said the rollout would begin with the Surat-Bilimora section, following which services would be extended in stages to Vapi, Ahmedabad, Thane and eventually the entire Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.
Vaishnaw also stated that nearly 80 per cent of the ambitious bullet train project has already been completed and expressed confidence that it would adhere to its planned rollout schedule. Once fully operational, the high-speed train is expected to run at speeds of up to 320 kmph, significantly reducing travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
