Former IndiGo Employee Alleges He Was Asked to Touch Supervisor’s Feet, Airline Rejects Claims

A former IndiGo employee has alleged that he resigned after being asked by a senior official to touch his supervisor’s feet as a gesture of apology for reporting to work without wearing a tie. The allegations, shared by Mohammad Jamshid Y in a video posted on Instagram, have gone viral on social media, prompting a response from the airline.

Jamshid, who worked as a ground staff member at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport, said the incident occurred during a routine inspection at Terminal 1. According to him, a senior official questioned him after noticing he was not wearing his tie. Jamshid admitted the mistake, apologised and assured the official that it would not happen again.

He alleged that the official then questioned his supervisor for allowing him to enter the terminal without adhering to the dress code. After both he and his supervisor apologised, Jamshid claimed he was instructed to touch his supervisor’s feet as an apology. He said he refused, describing the request as humiliating and inappropriate in a professional workplace. He further alleged that he was then asked to leave the terminal.

Jamshid later filed a complaint with IndiGo’s ethics and compliance department. While he appreciated the airline for investigating the matter, he said he was disappointed after being informed that CCTV footage did not substantiate his allegations. He questioned the conclusion, claiming the terminal is extensively monitored by surveillance cameras.

In response, IndiGo denied the allegations, calling them “baseless and unsubstantiated.” The airline stated that an internal review found no evidence supporting Jamshid’s claims and said his employment record included recurring professional misconduct, performance-related concerns and unauthorised absences. IndiGo maintained that the employee had received counselling and support throughout his tenure.
