The Bombay High Court at Goa has ordered a major overhaul of the investigation into the alleged assault on advocate Ankur Kumar, directing that the case be taken away from the present investigating officer of Mandrem Police Station and handed over to an independent senior officer.
The Court directed the Superintendent of Police (North Goa) to immediately transfer the investigation to an experienced Police Inspector from another police station outside the Pernem subdivision. The newly appointed investigating officer will function under the direct supervision of the SP (North Goa).

In a significant direction, the High Court also barred the SDPO, Pernem, from interfering in the investigation in any manner, underscoring the need for an impartial and independent probe.
The matter has been posted for further hearing on Tuesday afternoon. The Court has directed the Pernem Mamlatdar, the Morjim Talathi and the SDPO, Pernem, to file separate affidavits detailing the sequence of events and the actions taken in connection with the incident.
