Several explosions were reported across northern Iraq on Tuesday after Iranian drones targeted multiple locations, including areas near the US Consulate in Erbil, further escalating tensions in the region.
According to police sources cited by local media, at least four Iranian drones struck locations in the Khalifan and Soran areas, northeast of Erbil. The attacks reportedly triggered large fires, while two drones crashed near their intended targets. Iraqi media also reported at least seven explosions in and around Erbil, including close to the US Consulate.

Police sources further claimed that more than 10 US warplanes and drones were seen operating over Erbil following the attacks, amid heightened security concerns. Iranian state media also reported the destruction of an American drone in Iraq’s Al Anbar province and said the Khor Mor gas field in Sulaymaniyah had come under attack.
The latest strikes come as US President Donald Trump warned that Washington was prepared to resume “very strong military action” against Iran if ongoing diplomatic efforts fail. Trump said he had paused planned strikes on Iran to allow negotiations to continue, but indicated military action would resume should talks break down.
