Margao Police have registered a cheating case after a resident allegedly lost around ₹1.85 lakh in a UPI fraud on September 3.
According to the complaint, the victim was allegedly lured into downloading a PDF reader application through a pop-up advertisement on Facebook. Police suspect that the unknown accused subsequently gained access to the victim’s UPI credentials.

The accused allegedly carried out seven unauthorised transactions without the victim’s knowledge or consent, resulting in a total loss of approximately ₹1.85 lakh.
Police have registered a case and launched a further investigation to identify the accused and trace the transactions.
