Arun Dhumal is set to be re-elected as chairman of the IPL Governing Council, while Khairul Jamal Majumdar is also set to retain his place as a member after their nominations were approved for the upcoming BCCI elections.
BCCI electoral officer AK Joti approved the nomination applications of Dhumal and Majumdar on Friday, clearing the way for both candidates to be elected unopposed at the BCCI Annual General Meeting scheduled for September 18 at the board’s headquarters in Mumbai.

Dhumal represents Himachal Pradesh, while Majumdar represents Mizoram in the BCCI’s electoral process. With no other candidates currently listed for the two positions, both are expected to secure another term without a contest.
The BCCI issued a notice following scrutiny of the nomination applications. The notice listed Arun Singh Dhumal for the Governing Council and Khairul Jamal Majumdar for the same body as the validly nominated candidates.
The nomination process, however, remains open for withdrawals. According to the electoral officer’s notice, candidates can withdraw their nominations between 11 am and 2 pm on September 12.
Following the withdrawal window, the final list of contesting candidates will be declared by 4 pm on September 12.
Dhumal’s continuation as IPL Governing Council chairman would extend his involvement in the administration of the league, one of the BCCI’s most prominent and commercially significant properties. The IPL Governing Council oversees key matters related to the tournament and its functioning.
The election process is part of the BCCI’s annual electoral proceedings, with the AGM providing the formal platform for the appointments to be confirmed.
With Dhumal and Majumdar currently the only validly nominated candidates for the two Governing Council positions, their re-election is expected to be straightforward unless either nomination is withdrawn before the deadline.
The BCCI’s electoral process will therefore move into its next stage on September 12, when the withdrawal period ends and the final list of candidates is announced.
Dhumal, who represents Himachal Pradesh, has previously held a prominent administrative role within Indian cricket and has been associated with the IPL Governing Council. His expected continuation keeps the leadership structure of the IPL Governing Council largely unchanged.
The BCCI AGM on September 18 will formally complete the election process, with the board expected to confirm the appointments after the electoral formalities are completed.
