PANJIM: The State-level permission committee has resolved to modify the fee structure in a bid to further increase the flow of tourists in the coastal State during the peak, as well as lean season.
This is expected to cut costs for hosting tourism-related events during the lean tourist season if government accepts the recommendation of the Tourism department’s State-level committee.
The committee also decided to simplify the process for granting permissions through improvised single window clearance for events
In a meeting chaired by Principal Secretary Tourism R K Srivastava on Friday, representatives of Goa police and traffic cell, health, fire & emergency, PWD, tourism, and TTAG resolved to modify the fee structure.
“The fee structure could be modified so that organizers pay more during peak season and less during the lean season. To promote events and tourism in the hinterlands, fees charged will be very nominal if events are held there,” disclosed an official. Government, religious and traditional events will however be exempted from the system.
The committee also decided to simplify the process of granting permissions through improvised single window clearance for organizing mega and minor events. “There have been instances when quite often clearances and permissions come in as late as just a few days before the event. Most often tickets for mega events are sold even before the permissions are granted. The Single Window system will help avoid this delay.
The organizers will have to submit 10 copies of applications to the Tourism department,” deputy director Pamela Mascarenhas said. The department will then take the responsibility of convening the SLPC and coordinating with all concerned departments.
The committee also discussed that applications for mega events will be invited three months prior to the event. “After scrutiny, the organizers will be given NOC – subject to compliance of statutory conditions – by all concerned departments one month prior to the event. Further to this, all concerned departments will inspect the venue four days prior to the event. If all conditions are complied then the final permission will be granted,” another official said explaining the procedure.
To avoid traffic congestion and administrative hassles, the committee suggested that no two mega events will be given permission on the same dates in the same taluka. These set of recommendations is expected to be submitted to the government in the next week.
