Candolim local hurt in mishap
CALANGUTE: A motorcycle rider from Aradi-Candolim was injured, after he was knocked down by a truck at Bairo Alto I Saligao on Thursday.
According to Calangute Police, Alok Mandela of Aradi complained that the truck (GA-03-K-5805), which was proceeding from Saligao junction to Zaricade-Saligao, dashed against an oncoming motorcycle (GA-03-L-3724), due to which he fell on the road and sustained grievous injuries. Head Constable U B Narvekar is investigating the case.
Theft at Amona plant
BICHOLIM: Some parts of a conveyor belt, worth Rs 1,500 were stolen from a company at Amona. According to Bicholim Police, Deelip Virdikar, the company security officer, complained that the accused stole parts of conveyor belt worth Rs 1,500. Head Constable H K Parab is investigating the case.
Sanguem teen ends life
SANGUEM: A 16-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence at Savrimoll-Kurpe, Sanguem, on Thursday. According to Sanguem Police, the body was found hanging from the roof at his residence. The body was referred to morgue for post-mortem. PSI S B Pannalkar is investigating the case.
Konkani drama at Chaudi today
CANACONA: Society of St Vincent De Paul of St Thereza of Jesus, Chaudi, will stage a Konkani drama ‘Baulelim Fulam’ on Saturday as a fund raiser for the church. The Konkani drama ‘Baulelim Fulam’ by Lawry Travasso is being staged to raise funds for the society to enable it to continue its service.
The Chaudi Church is known to cater to the needs of the poor families for the past many years and is presently looking after a few needy families belonging to different faiths. The society also provides lunch in the church premises to the aged and old people residing in and around Chaudi Besides, the society provides free medicines and medical aid to the needy.
Victoria expresses support to Shripad
PANJIM: The former MLA of St Cruz constituency Victoria Fernandes, has decided to support Shripad Naik in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. She said she has taken this decision after consulting her supporters and taking their views and opinions into consideration. She said further that Naik always supported her whenever she approached him in helping people of St Cruz constituency, says a press note issued here.
Vaikunthrao Dempo remembered
PANJIM: The Lions Club of Panjim paid homage to late Vaikunthrao S Dempo, their Club’s charter member and past president, on his 28th death anniversary with a visit to Peace Haven, an institute dedicated to care and upliftment of challenged children at Caranzalem.
Vishwasrao Dempo sponsored and distributed medicines, tonic and other para-medical aids to the students in memory of his late father Vaikunthrao. Vice-President Gangaram Morajkar, Gokuldas Amonkar, Dr Usha Parab, Aurea Noronha, Neema Chonkar, Cdr Henry Azavedo, John Noronha, teachers and students were present.
Earlier Vishwasrao garlanded the portrait of Vaikunthrao while others offered floral tributes.
SBI pensioners meet
PANJIM: The annual meeting of State Bank of India pensioners will be held on April 6, at 9.30 am, at SBI STC Hall, Patto Plaza. The meet will be addressed by Dy General Manager of SBI, Panjim Module and other dignitaries of SBI Pensioners’ Association.
Closure of liquor shops, bars
PANJIM: The District Magistrate, North has ordered that all liquor bars, shops, pubs, shacks, clubs, provision stores or any establishment serving or selling liquor in North Goa shall be closed by 11 pm with immediate effect till April 9.
Failure to comply with this order shall result in the cancellation of licences and the owner or offender shall be liable for penal action under Section 188 of IPC.
Blood donation camp at Taleigao
PANJIM: Shankarwadi Sports Club in association with Goa Medical College has scheduled a blood donation camp on April 5, at Shree Shankar Devasthan Shankarwadi, Taleigao, between 9.30 am to 12.30 pm.
Fugdi contest at Chorao
CHORAO: Jai-Hanuman Self Help Group of Chorao and Art and Culture Department will organise an All Goa Fugdi contest at Devkikrishna Hall, Madel-Chorao, on April 6.
The contest will start at 3.30 pm and 15 best Fugdi groups that have been selected will participate. State cultural award winner Pundalik Kalangutkar will be the guest, while Prof Pornima Kerkar and Balchandra Usgaonkar will be present. Social worker Santosh Naik will preside at the prize distribution function, while environmentalist Prof Rajendra Kerkar, Tulshidas Mandrekar and Suresh Thakur will be the special invitees. Three senior women from Chorao, Requeta Colaco (ex-sarpanch), Rekha Kundaikar and Gopiki Mandrekar will be felicitated.
Solo dance contest for mothers
PANJIM: The Unbeatable Dance Academy will organise ‘Nach Goenkara Season 4’ ~ all Goa solo dance competition for mothers. The auditions will be on April 10 from 4 pm to 6 pm at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, and on April 13 from 10 am to noon at Black Box Kala Academy, Panjim. The finals will be on May 11 at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, states a press note.
