TIVIM: Six different places were raided in Pernem taluka and around 25 canoes and a truck linked to sand extraction activities were seized by the deputy collector of Pernem taluka, after they were found operating without a valid permit by the Captain of Ports.
When contacted, Pernem Deputy Collector Narayan Gaad told Herald that he had undertaken raids at six different sites, including Torsem, Tamoshem, Poraskade, Nainbag and Bathpaavni.
“During our raids in these places, we found that around 25 canoes were without any registration by the Captain of Ports (CoP) and they were found anchored along the riverbanks. We have also seized one truckload of sand and have filed an FIR in this matter.”
“I have written to the CoP to seize the boats and right now, the police are guarding them,” Gaad said.
He informed that the drive against illegal sand extraction would continue in other parts of Pernem Taluka.
“We had also seized some trucks a few days ago. I am also writing to the mines department to seize the sand that has been dumped on hilly places by the roadside,” Gaad added.
Those who were involved in the raids included officials from the mines departments, CoP, RTO and Pernem police.
