MARGAO: Claiming that the amended Goa Land Development and Building Construction Regulation Act is purely to benefit the building lobby, social activist Royla Fernandes appealed to the locals and more especially the newly elected panchas to raise their voice against the amendment.

Addressing a public awareness meeting at Benaulim on Friday, Royla said that this amended Act is very dangerous and it would create a worst impact on agriculture and forest, besides several other aspects of human life.
“The entire amended Act is to benefit the builders lobby, and is dangerous in nature as the provisions are made in such a way that construction activities get a free hand,” she alleged.
Later, Royal told Herald that this meeting was to guide the panchayats in order to draft the resolution and hence all the 17 amendments were explained in detail to those present at the meeting.
Adding further, she said, “The panchayats need to take a first step towards passing the resolution against the implementation of amended Goa Land Development and Building Construction Regulation Act.”
“Our appeal is to all the panchayats to hold gram sabhas and deliberate on the issue, besides they should make the villagers aware of the amended Act and impact. The entire amendment isn’t purely builder centric,” said Fernandes.
