BJP state president K Annamalai was taken into custody by Chennai police while on his way to Egmore for a demonstration against the TASMAC scam. Along with him, former Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and several other senior party officials were also detained. Starting at 7 am, police set up barriers at the homes of BJP state and district leaders, arresting them as they tried to leave for the protest.
Annamalai was apprehended at Akkarai junction near Neelankarai on the East Coast Road (ECR) while en route to the party’s rally against the alleged TASMAC scam.

His vehicle was halted, and after some discussions, he was taken into custody and removed from the area in a police car. Earlier, former Governor and BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan, along with other senior party officials, was apprehended while trying to participate in the protest. Tamilisai Soundararajan had left her home to join the gherao planned at the Tasmac office in Egmore.
A police team, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Snehapriya and other officials, had been stationed outside her residence since 7 a.m. and stopped her from leaving, ultimately escorting her to the police vehicle.
Previously, she claimed that she had the right to leave her home to join the protesters. She insisted that the police should treat her equally to the BJP members. At the same time, BJP state deputy president Karu Nagarajan was also taken into custody outside his residence. Starting at 7 am, city police were stationed outside the homes of BJP state and district officials, effectively blocking access.
As soon as the BJP workers and leaders attempted to leave their homes to participate in the protest, the police arrested them. Those detained were taken to a marriage hall and a community hall in the city.
