PANJIM: The Crime Branch (CB) has taken over the investigation of the tragic Banastarim accident. They’ve collected the airbags and other evidence from the Mercedes SUV.
However, the police officers are now facing tough challenges such as –finding the evidence of who’s responsible. In our Street Voices series Monday, Herald TV spoke to people to know their thoughts about accident compensation and support for the families affected by the tragedy.

Goa is witnessing a number of accidents daily, mainly due to negligence. I would like to ask the government what compensation it will pay, now that victims have died and some have sustained serious injuries. One person is also paralysed due to the accident at Banastarim. I just want the govt to take notice of this and give proper compensation to the victims and their families and consider if this compensation is enough to last a lifetime. Govt should think of this. Even the accused should think on this

When an accident occurs and an earning member dies, the family faces a financial crisis. I have experienced this. When it’s proved that accident took place due to negligent driving I think we need a law that within seven days a compensation amount needs to be provided to the victim. And if they have children, the accused is supposed to look after the education of the children, because not everyone has insurance. The victim’s and their families suffer a lot financially and they deserve compensation

There’s a lot of debate with respect to the accidents happening on the road. One is, what is the type of decision to be made with respect to compensation for the victims or family support to be offered. In case of negligent driving, over speeding and drunken driving the victims needs to be compensated with lifelong compensation and if there are children left behind, although it may not ease their pain or void, but at least something is better than nothing. The accused must be liable to take care of the children till they’re 18 years old and make them pay for their upbringing and their education till they’re employed and this is the least they can do
