MARGAO: Against the backdrop of anger amongst local villagers about the sewerage works in the village, the Navelim gram sabha urged the panchayat to write to the Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa limited (SIDCGL) to explain about the recent incident where a sewage chamber on an internal road in Nagmodem had collapsed.
The gram sabha demanded that the panchayat issue a stop work order until there is clarity about the works going at the site.
It may be recalled that villagers were furious to find a pipe discharging sewage from a chamber into neighbouring fields recently.
On other topics, the budget for the next financial year was passed with major emphasis being given on garbage management. Villagers also suggested that the panchayat could cover the drains with slabs.
The contentious issue of roadside vendors causing traffic congestion was also raised with the panchayat asked to initiate legal action to evict the vendors.
A call was also made to see that the food carts in the village are registered under FDA so that there is a better accountability of prevailing hygiene standards.
Earlier there were complaints about how the minutes of the previous meeting were not correctly recorded by the former panchayat secretary.
