MARGAO: In a meeting held at Sao Jose de Areal on Thursday, Captain Viriato Fernandes, the INDIA Bloc candidate said that efforts were on to impede his campaign in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Asserting the importance of protecting Goa’s land, Viriato emphasised that the future generations of the State are the landowners of Goa.

The corner meeting organised by the INDIA Bloc witnessed a significant turnout, with leaders from the Goa Forward Party and AAP also making their presence felt.
Addressing the gathering, Viriato alleged that the BJP is resorting to tactics to hinder his campaign efforts. “It is my appeal to the people of Goa to take forward the campaigning in the coming days if the BJP stops me from doing so by using their tactics. All of you need to be captains in order to protect Goa,” he said.
Viriato criticised the BJP government’s policies, accusing them of introducing laws aimed at facilitating the sale of Goa’s land and rivers.
“We are not the owners of this land; our ancestors had entrusted us with the responsibility on our shoulders to protect it. The real owners of land in Goa are our future generation and hence we need to protect it”.
Additionally, he criticised the proposed linear projects, stating that they are not in the best interest of Goans.
MLA Cruz Silva said that the upcoming Lok Sabha election is the second opinion poll.
“This is the election to save our country and constitution,” he said. Freddy Travaso, a local leader representing the Goa Forward Party, called for unity among the people to ensure a better future for Goa and the country.
Other speakers at the meeting included ZP Michelle Rebello, Former ZP Moreno Rebello, Savio D’Silva, President of Congress South Goa, and Joseph Vas, Sarpanch of the Rachol village panchayat.
