Goa to introduce vocational modules in agriculture

PANJIM: Goa is all set to be the fourth State in India to introduce vocational education modules in the streams of agriculture and hospitality under the National Vocational Education Qualification Framework starting from Std IX onwards.
The modules are being worked out by the Goa Board and the Directorate of Education under the guidance of experts from the Pandit Sundarlal Sharma Central Institute of Vocational Education, Bhopal.
The other three States which have already introduced thesemodules are Haryana, West Bengal and Assam.
“A workshop is underway to facilitate framing of the curriculum for the subjects of agriculture and hospitality in vocational education from Std IX onwards,” Chairman of the Goa Board J R Rebello said today.
Goa may also consider introducing the modules already prepared by the PSSCIVE in the subjects of IT Enabled Services, Security, Retail and Automobile which are successfully being implemented in Haryana and the other two States.
“We expect the courses of agriculture and hospitality to be ready be December this year so that w e can introduce it from 2014 academic year,” Rebello said.
The Ministry for Human Resources Development (MHRD) is promoting this modular form of education to produce manpower who go through the regular system of education with additional components of vocational education, explained the Goa Board Chairman.
It was pointed out that students in the general stream can opt for these modules as they progress giving them an additional edge in the employment arena.
“Goa being a tourism State and thrusts on agriculture, we expect a good response to the two modules,” said Rebello.
Another module also being worked upon is that of solar energy and educationists are optimistic that this module will also receive good response here in Goa.
