VASCO: Sancoale panachayat on Sunday decided to launch the garbage sentinel scheme to combat garbage issue, while the gram sabha members demanded construction of new panchayat ghar for the village.
Raising the garbage issue at the gram sabha garbage, the villagers demanded that the panchayat take stringent action on those who dump garbage in open, blind spots and do not segregate garbage before giving it to the garbage collector.
The gram sabha members also pointed out that tenants staying in flats and houses they are contributing to the garbage problem as they do not segregate it.
At the meeting, it was decided that panchayat would send notices to the houses and flats which have been given on rent. The tenants would be asked to segregate and hand over the garbage to the collector. “If the tenants do not follow the instruction, they will be fined Rs 500. If the tenants are still not following the rules of garbage segregation then complaint to the higher authorities asking for stringent action will be made,” the panchayat members said.
Further, it was informed to the gram sabha that the panchayat would implement garbage sentinel scheme, wherein the sentinels would click photos of those dumping mixed waste in the open and forward it to the panchayat which would fine the violator.
