PANJIM: Criticising the decision of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over House Building Advance (HBA) loan scheme for government servants, Congress said that it will restore the earlier HBA scheme to give maximum benefit to the government employees.
“BJP government had withdrawn this scheme after coming to power, but as Assembly elections approached, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced to restart it. But there is a clause in it which says that the government can withdraw this scheme at any time. This scheme is to hoodwink government servants and to derive political gains,” said Congress leader John Nazareth at a press conference. He was accompanied by party leader Elvis Gomes.
Nazareth said that under the new scheme beneficiary government employees have to pay only 2 per cent of the interest rate of their housing loan and the 5 per cent rate of interest will be borne by the State government. “What if the interest rate is 8 per cent. This additional one per cent will have to be borne by the beneficiary,” said Nazareth, a former government employee.
“If we form a government then we will take decisions in favour of government servants and implement earlier schemes,” Nazareth said alleging that the BJP government had deprived government servants to avail DDSSY, Laadli Laxmi scheme and compassionate appointment.
