VASCO: Expressing serious concerns over the increasing mega projects in their village, the Sancoale gram sabha on Sunday unanimously resolved to oppose any further changing of zones by the Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA).
The sabha resolved to ask MPDA against changing any zones in the VP jurisdiction until the sabha clears the proposal. The members demanded that all zones changed in the past be reverted back to settlement zone.
Other issues such as garbage, illegal scrap of barges etc. were discussed in the meeting chaired by acting Sarpanch Nandini Desai.
The members opined that since Sancoale cannot take any further load of mega projects. A gram sabha member informed that since the Outline Development Plan for the village is prepared by MPDA, it has come to light that several zones in the village have been converted into commercial zones, which in turn give a larger FAR.
“The main question is whether Sancoale at present can cope up with such mega projects coming up or proposed in new commercial zones. We have water crises, we have problem of electricity and internal roads. With so many problems, should the change of zones for individual benefits be permitted?” the member asked.
“We specifically discussed this issue and it was resolved that any project that comes up, has to comply with sewage treatment plant, water harvesting and all possible stringent measures. The sabha proposed that no zone change should be permitted and if any zone change has been proposed then they should be reverted back into settlement zones”, the member said.
