SAO JOSE DE AREAL: Sao Jose de Areal defeated Goa Velha by a solitary goal to move into the quarter-finals of the 37th Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Cup organised by Sao Jose de Areal SC, at Padribhat Sao Jose de Areal ground, on Sunday.
Alvito Moura netted the match winner for Areal in the 47th minute with a power-packed shot off Leston Fernandes’ connect.
As the match progressed in the second half, Pravin Naik failed to equalise for Goa Velha in the 49th minute.
Sao Jose de Areal had many chances to put the game to bed as their players created chances at regular intervals but were let down by their strikers who fumbled with their attempts on the rival post.
The Goa Velha players tried their best to get back in the game but the Areal defence stood tall till the end of the final whistle.
Sao Jose de Areal will now meet Cuncolim Union in the quarter-finals on October 5.
