PANJIM: All India Congress Committee President Sonia Gandhi will address a Congress election rally in the capital on April 8, to boost her party’s campaign for both the candidates fielded in Goa.
Although Ravi Naik and Aleixo Reginald Lourenco are busy campaigning in their respective constituencies, party leaders say Gandhi’s rally at Panjim Gymkhana will bolster the morale before Goa goes to the polls April 12.
“The date was deliberately chosen close to the voting day. It will also be a show of strength for the party. We expect people in several thousands to attend the rally,” said a leader.
AICC General Secretary in-charge of Goa desk Digvijaya Singh could also join the rally, though Congress House could not confirm the same.
Sources said the meeting was originally planned to be held at Fatorda stadium but since it is already occupied the venue was shifted to Panjim. AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi, who was also expected to address the voters in South Goa, has cancelled his tour.
