PANJIM: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Goa Branch has dispatched the finding report after raiding the office and residence of IIT Director Dr Barada Kanta Mishra who was booked by the Bhubaneswar Bureau in a disproportionate assets case.
After receiving orders from the Bhubaneswar bureau, a team of Goa CBI raided the office of Mishra at Farmagudi and his residence at Borim in Ponda.
CBI officials said the raids and searches were carried out as per instructions. The Officer said that Mishra was out of the State while his family was present in the house at Borim when the CBI team carried out the search.
Mishra shifted to Goa just five months ago as Director of Goa IIT while the offence registered against him is for amassing wealth amounting to Rs 1.14 crore when he was Director of the Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT) in Bhubaneswar, between April 2006 and March 2017.
CBI in its FIR claimed that Mishra’s assets were worth Rs 3.39 lakh in 2006 but had increased to over Rs 2.19 crore by 2016. The FIR also alleges that Mishra had earned over Rs 2.39 crore and had spent nearly Rs 1.31 crore on payment of margin amount for purchase of a car, advance payment on purchase of a flat, house loan repayment, educational expenditure of his children and kitchen expenses during this period.
Mishra, who is the founding director of the newly established IIT in Goa, is known for his extensive studies in the fields of mineral processing and extractive metallurgy. According to information available on the IIT website, he graduated in metallurgical engineering from NIT Rourkela and obtained his PhD and post-doctoral degrees from the University of Utah.
