VASCO: Vasco Police have booked the supporter of a Mormugao Municipal councillor for allegedly trespassing and assaulting a senior municipal supervisor on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at around 7 am, when one Dhakappa Lamani visited the municipality’s stores and maintenance department, he got into an argument with municipal supervisor Shamu Naik and allegedly assaulted him.
Other municipal workers then rushed to rescue their colleague.
The situation turned tensed for over half-an-hour, with the aggrieved workers refusing to work until the accused was punished. Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Deepak Naik and councillors also rushed to the site to defuse the situation.
The workers later decided to lodge a police complaint against the accused, while former Vasco MLA and Minister Jose Philip D’ Souza, on behalf of his brother Pascoal, visited the police station to try and settle the issue. The workers decided to resume work only after receiving assurances from Naik and Vasco Police, who registered offences against the accused under Sections 353, 332 and 452 of IPC.
Meanwhile, Lamani has filed a cross complaint with Vasco Police against four MMC employees. In his complaint, he alleged that the employees, including one Rajesh Sawant, had illegally confined and assaulted him when he went to the municipality to inquire about the delay in lifting garbage from his residential area.
