What’s the first thought that comes to mind when you open your eyes in the morning?
“I have such a long day ahead, what a dread” (or) “Yes! It’s a brand new day ahead! Let me plan and achieve a lot”.
How to get into positive attitude that helps cope up stress and get into high energy, high confidence mode so as to self motivated always?
Motivation is the word derived from the word ‘motive’ which means needs, desires, wants or drives within the individuals. It is the process of stimulating people to actions to accomplish the goals.
According to Maslow, individuals are motivated by unsatisfied needs.
Self-motivation is a power that drives us to keep moving ahead. It encourages continuous learning and success, whatever be the scenario. Self-motivation is a primary means of realising our goals and progressing.
Following are the ways/techniques for self-motivation:
1. Stop Thinking and do something: When you’re thinking and worrying about it too much, you’re just wasting time. Do something small and create a flow. When you have finished that small task you’ll feel more alert and ready to go do the next thing.
2. Get out of your comfort zone and make a deal with yourself: Face your challenges to get a real boost of motivation.
3. Think you’re unstoppable: You’ll be amazed at the doors that open up when you start believing that you can accomplish anything.
4. Remember your successes & strengths: If you’re feeling down on yourself, take some time to examine those fantastic traits that got you.
5. Practise humility and help others: Surprisingly, humility and helping others can go a long way toward keeping you motivated.
7. Get healthy: Motivation you’ll get from being healthy is, is well worth it. You can start small — such as walking to work, climbing stairs, etc. Besides physical benefits, regular exercises help you be in good shape and good spirits.
8 .Practise gratitude: Making gratefulness as part of your life is a very important step to retain high motivational levels. It revitalises our spirits and renews our enthusiasm for life.
9. Visualize your Success: Close your eyes and focus all your energies on the minutest of details that will take you where you want to reach. Doing this exercise everyday inspires you to keep going and not lose hope.
10. Meditate regularly: Meditation lets you take control of your mind. It improves focus and concentration while helping you relax.
The author Steven Pressfield has a great line in his book, “The War of Art” which sums up motivation beautifully: “At some point, the pain of not doing it becomes greater than the pain of doing it.” Let us practise to get that point every now and then so as to make success as a habit.
In Saint Thiruvalluwar words, “Wealth will find its own way to the man of unfailing motivation”. (Kural594)
“The stalks of water-flowers are proportionate to the depth of water; so is men’s greatness proportionate to their minds.” (Kural 595)
